Recognition and Audit

Club Recognition

Recognition is an annual process wherein student groups are able to renew their membership with the UTMSU. This is also the time when students can submit applications for a new club on campus. There are many benefits to gaining recognition by UTMSU. Including, but not limited to:

  • Funding from UTMSU
  • Access to office spaces and lockers
  • A bank account and bank card
  • Access to booking rooms in the Student Centre
The (re)recognition season at the UTMSU takes place in the Summer semester. Failing to resubmit applications may result in cancellation of club status for UTMSU recognized clubs, and withhold of funds for Academic Societies. Recognition trainings are held each year. All campus groups are required to attend this meeting prior to submitting recognition documents.

  • Audits

Audits are a mandatory annual process that all campus groups must fulfill in order to maintain their recognition. There are two audits throughout the year: the fall audit and the winter audit. The fall audit falls around November and the winter audit falls around April. For each audit, folks are expected to submit the following documents:

    • A letter to the auditor
    • Financial Statement
    • Receipts
    • Bank Statements
Training sessions are held before the audit period so campus groups have a better idea of what is expected of them. These training sessions are mandatory.
