UTM is a diverse community of students, united by the goal of obtaining a post-secondary education. The United for Equity campaign aims to challenge all forms of discrimination and oppression on our campuses, in our communities, and in our student organizing spaces. Racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism and other forms of oppression can affect how certain groups of people access post-secondary education and perpetuate inequities in society based on gender, race, socio-economic status, (dis)ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, citizenship status and other factors.
The UTMSU aims to create a campus free from discrimination by:
- Educating members on what these systems of oppression look like, sound like and feel like
- Advertising resources that are available to challenge these systems of oppression
- Hosting workshops to learn your rights, creating spaces to discuss these experiences and tools to organize and combat oppression
- Advocating for policy changes and protections for students on and off-campus
